Sending shayari Reels to the family group, the right way

My nani does not use Instagram. She never will. But every Sunday evening she asks me the same thing on the phone: “Koi nayi shayari bhejo na.”

Send me a new one.

For years I typed couplets into WhatsApp for her. Then I noticed something. She did not care much for the typed lines. What she loved was the voice. A young poet in a small room in Lucknow, a pause before the last line, the soft “waah” from someone off camera. That is what shayari is, really. It is meant to be heard.

So now I send her the Reel itself, as a video file, in the family WhatsApp group. This post is about how I do that, which tools I tried, and how to do it without taking anything away from the poets who made those videos.

Why a link is not enough

My first attempt was lazy. I copied the Instagram link and pasted it in the group.

It did not work for half the family. Nani has no Instagram. My mama’s phone opens the link in a browser that asks him to log in, and he gives up. My chachi lives in a village where the signal comes and goes, so a streaming link means a spinning circle and then silence.

A video file is different. WhatsApp downloads it once, when the signal is good, and after that it plays anytime. On the bus. During a power cut. At two in the morning when sleep does not come and a little Faiz would help.

Instagram does not give you a button to save most Reels to your phone. The bookmark inside the app only keeps it for you, inside Instagram. So I needed a downloader.

What I looked for

Simple needs, really.

The poet’s voice had to stay clear. That is the whole point.

The video had to be sharp enough that nani could read the Urdu or Hindi text on screen, because many shayari Reels show the lines as they are recited.

And it had to be easy enough that my younger cousin could do it on her iPhone without calling me.

The options, in the order I would recommend them

First choice: Sssinstagram

This is the one I settled on, and the one I taught my cousin.

Open the Reel, tap the share arrow, copy the link. Open Sssinstagram in any browser, paste the link, press Download. The Reel saves as an HD MP4 to your gallery. Then you forward it in WhatsApp like any other video.

It works in the browser on Android, iPhone and computer, with no app to install, which matters on my mother’s phone that is already full of grandchildren’s photos. The sound comes with the video exactly as the poet recorded it. The text on screen stays crisp.

It also saves photos and carousels, so when a page posts a couplet as an image with calligraphy, I can save that too. Same for IGTV and Stories, as long as the account is public. Private accounts it will not touch, and I am glad of that.

Second choice: SnapInsta

Works in a similar way from a pasted link. My cousin found the page a little confusing because of the ads around it, and she once tapped the wrong button. For someone careful, it is fine.

Third choice: Inflact

A bigger set of Instagram tools with a downloader among them. It worked when I tried it. For a quick shayari forward, it felt like more website than I needed.

Fourth choice: Toolzu

Similar to Inflact. Several tools, one of them a downloader. Fine if you already use it. I would not hand it to nani’s generation as a first tool.

Last choice: screen recording

I tried this first, like everyone. On my phone, the recording either picked up the room noise or no Reel sound at all, depending on settings I never fully understood. The picture came out softer, the status bar sat on top, and once a message notification slid across the face of the poet in the middle of a sher. Not respectful. Not nice to watch.

Not really an option: Instagram save

It keeps the Reel safe for you. It does nothing for the family group.

The short version

Method Plays offline in WhatsApp Poet’s voice Text on screen Easy for elders’ phones
Sssinstagram Yes Clear, original Sharp Yes, browser only
SnapInsta Yes Clear Good Ads can confuse
Inflact Yes Clear Good More steps
Toolzu Yes Clear Good More steps
Screen recording Yes Depends on phone settings Softer Easy, but messy result
Instagram save No Only inside the app Only inside the app No

Teaching my cousin, step by step

The first time, she called me four times. By the third Sunday she was faster than me, so I think the steps are worth writing down.

She keeps a note on her phone with three lines: copy the link, paste in the browser, press Download. That is the whole method. The trick is in what comes after.

Before forwarding, she plays the saved file once with the sound on. If the poet’s voice is clear and the last line lands, it goes to the group. If the Reel is mostly background music with a few words, she skips it. Nani wants the poetry, not a song.

She also learned one rule the hard way. A website once asked her to log in with Instagram before it would save anything. She almost did. Do not. A tool that saves public Reels has no need for your password, and giving it away is the quickest way to lose your account. Close that page and use one that asks for nothing.

Credit, always

This part is not optional for me.

Shayari Reels are made by real people. Young poets reading in cafés and open mics, often with very small followings, sometimes reciting the old masters, sometimes their own lines written at night after work. When I forward their video, I add a line above it in WhatsApp: the poet’s name and their Instagram handle. If the lines belong to Ghalib or Gulzar or Parveen Shakir, I write that too.

I never crop the video to remove the poet’s handle. I never post it on my own account as if I found it myself.

And when nani says “bahut sundar,” I go back to Instagram and leave a comment for the poet. Sometimes I tell them an eighty-one year old woman in Bhopal listened to them three times.

They usually reply. Waah, they say.

Winter Accessibility Planning for Ramps, Curb Cuts, and High-Traffic Entrances: Clear Is Not Always Accessible

September 17, 2026

Winter Accessibility Planning for Ramps, Curb Cuts, and High-Traffic Entrances: Clear Is Not Always AccessibleWhen a Clear Path Is Still Not Usable A winter route can look cleared and still be difficult for someone using a wheelchair, walker, cane, stroller, or other mobility aid. A narrow strip through the snow may work for an able-bodied pedestrian but fail at the first curb cut, ramp landing, or patch of compacted ice. Snow Removal Expert’s service approach is relevant because accessible winter maintenance requires more than a single plow or shovel pass. Fast snow clearing, modern equipment, 24/7 service, scheduled plans, safety-focused ice control, and repeat inspections become most useful when they preserve a continuous route from parking or drop-off areas to the building entrance. For facility and healthcare managers, that continuity should be the starting point. Do not evaluate ramps, sidewalks, doors, and curb transitions separately. Ask whether a person can travel the entire path without encountering a snow ridge, narrowed section, drainage puddle, steep icy cross-slope, or blocked landing. The route is only as accessible as its most difficult few metres. Set the Accessible Route Before Winter Planning Edmonton snow and ice services should begin before snow hides pavement edges, curb transitions, drainage points, and tactile surfaces. Choose the primary accessible path from designated parking spaces, passenger drop-off areas, transit access, or public sidewalks to the entrance. Then identify alternate routes in case the main path is temporarily affected by maintenance or other site conditions. Preserve the Usable Width Snow should be removed across the intended usable width of the route rather than leaving a narrow walking channel. Edmonton’s accessibility guidance requires curb ramps wherever an exterior barrier-free path encounters a curb and calls for a 1,500-by-1,500-millimetre level surface behind curb ramps in applicable City designs. Alberta guidance also identifies minimum unobstructed dimensions for barrier-free routes and ramps. Those design figures should not be treated as generic snow-contract specifications for every private property. They do illustrate the operational point: winter maintenance should preserve the space the accessible design was intended to provide. Protect Grade and Cross-Slope Snow pushed against one side of a ramp can change how the usable surface feels.…
